6 December, 2017: Safran Transmission Systems achieves a milestone of billion hours of flight on its power transmission systems since the entry into service of the first aircraft powered by the CFM56-2 engine – a McDonnell Douglas DC-8 – in April 1982.
Safran Transmission Systems (formerly Hispano-Suiza) delivered the first power transmission system to CFM International in 1980. A decade later, Rolls-Royce selected Safran Transmission Systems to provide engines from the Trent family for the Airbus A340, A330 and the Boeing 777. The British engine manufacturer demonstrated continued confidence on the business and regional aircraft market, supplying power transmission systems from the BR700 engine range, and more recently the engine for the Gulfstream G650 aircraft.
Safran Transmission Systems and Rolls-Royce announced the creation of Aero Gearbox International in 2015, a 50/50 joint venture in charge of the development, production and operational maintenance of power transmission systems (ADT) for all Rolls-Royce commercial engines. The Airbus 330neo, equipped with the Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engine completed its first flight lately.
Safran Transmissions Systems has also partnered with Dassault Aviation since 1984, having supplied the M88 (Safran Aircraft Engines) engine's power transmission system and the aircraft-mounted accessory drive for Dassault's Rafale aircraft. Such expertise has led Safran Transmission Systems to collaborate on the Airbus A400M programme powered by Europrop International (EPI) in 2003, and to venture into the helicopter market with the H175 for Airbus Helicopter in 2006.
Overall, Safran Transmission Systems has delivered more than 36,000 pieces of equipment totalling a billion hours of flight for commercial, military and helicopter applications so far.
