29 November, 2017: The US Army has selected Rockwell Collins’ upgraded version of SimEye Helmet Mounted Display (HMD) to be used within Aviation Combined Arms Tactical Trainer (AVCATT) systems. A total of 332 HMDs will be upgraded and is expected to be completed in October 2019.
The contract will enhance HMD optical performance, increase availability and offer substantial life cycle cost savings due to lower maintenance requirements.
“We worked very closely with the PEO STRI to fine tune the HMD as technology continues to evolve,” said Nick Gibbs, vice president and general manager, Simulation and Training Solutions at Rockwell Collins. “This next-generation solution will provide the Army with the highest fidelity simulation available and at a lower cost to maintain.”
The SimEye HMD will be refined to include display and optical enhancements to visual symbology, providing a boost to the already unique level of realism. Along with a software update, the HMD upgrade will ensure the Army’s continued success in using the AVCATT to train their helicopter crews effectively.
