Jun 3, 2017: China Southern Airlines (CSA) B-6016, the first A380 with 6-Year check, was redelivered with a new look of the cabin and airframe after heavy maintenance and repainting, also symbolizing GAMECO’s milestone of the first A380 6-Year Check in China.
In 2011, CSA has started launching A380 to its fleet. After 6-year’s operation, China Southern Airlines’s five A380s will consecutively move forward to full-scale “physical check”. On Mar 1st 2017, the first A380 3C check (6-year check) began in GAMECO Hangar. After 75-day’s heavy check and 19-day’s repainting, the aircraft was redelivered on Jun 2nd 2017.
The 6-year check covers more than 1250 job cards and over 120 EO MOD with 90 mechanics working on the aircraft every day on average, even up to 140 mechanics for peak hours. Aircraft parts on the upper floor and lower floor of the cabin were all removed for revamp, including 18 galleys, 14 lavatories, 506 seats, thousands of accessories being painted, polished or replaced.
During the check, panels of cabin, cargo compartment, wing and airframe were opened for cleaning and inspection of corrosion, dent and scratch. Borescope was carried out for Engine. And the wings was also inspected with X-ray and wing rib with NDT.
Full painting was carried out after heavy check and covered an area of over 4000m2, equivalent to 10 standard basketball fields and equivalent to the painting workload for 5 A320s.
According to the maintenance plan, CSA’s 4 A380s will be sent for 6-year check consecutively in the next two years.
The successful execution of 6-year check is one of the milestones in GAMECO’s history, which not only enhances GAMECO’s maintenance capacity, but also reinforces their confidence in future growth.
